নিউজিল্যান্ড প্রথমে ব্যাটিং করে ১৩২ রান করে। নিউজিল্যাণ্ডের হয়ে উইকেটকিপার টিম সিফের্ট সবচেয়ে বেশি ৩৩ রান করেন। তার এই ইনিংস দলকে ১৩২ রানে পৌঁছে দেয়। ভারতের হয়ে রবীন্দ্র জাদেজা সবচেয়ে বেশি ২টি উইকেট নেন। জবাবে ব্যাট করতে নামা ভারতীয় দলের ওপেনার রোহিত শর্মা প্রথম ওভারে আউট হওয়ার পর অধিনায়ক বিরাট কোহলিও বড়ো ইনিংস না খেলতে পেরেই আউট হন। এরপর কেএল রাহুল আর শ্রেয়স আইয়ার দেখেশুনে খেলে দলকে লক্ষ্যে পৌঁছে দেন। ৩৩ বলে ৪৪ রান করে শ্রেয়স আইয়ার জয় থেকে মাত্র ৮ রান আগেই আউট হয়ে ফিরে যান। ভারত ১৮তম ওভারে এই ম্যাচ জিতে নেয়। কেএল রাহুল ৫৭ আর শিভম দুবে ৮ রান করে অপরাজিত থাকেন।
