ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজের বিপক্ষে প্রথম টেস্টের প্রথম দিনে আধিপত্য বিস্তার করেছে ভারতীয় ক্রিকেট দল। তরুণ ওপেনার পৃথ্বী শ এর দুর্দান্ত সেঞ্চুরির উপর ভর করে দিন শেষে চার উইকেটে ৩৬৪ রান করেছে স্বাগতিকরা। দিনের প্রথম সেশনে মাত্র এক উইকেট হারিয়ে ১৩৩ রান সংগ্রহ করে প্রথমে ব্যাট করতে নামা ভারত। লাঞ্চের আগের এই সেশনেই সর্বকনিষ্ঠ ভারতীয় ক্রিকেটার হিসেবে টেস্ট অভিষেকে হাফ সেঞ্চুরি করার রেকর্ড গড়েন পৃথ্বী শ।
পৃথ্বী শ এর পাশাপাশি দুর্দান্ত ব্যাটিং করেছেন আরেক টপ অর্ডার ব্যাটসম্যান চেতেশ্বর পুজারা। ৮৬ রানের ইনিংস খেলে আউট হওয়ার আগে উইকেটে থেকে পৃথ্বী শকে ভাল ভাবেই সঙ্গ দিয়েছিলেন এই ব্যাটসম্যান। এরপর বিরাট কোহলি নেমেও দারুণ ব্যাটিং করেছেন। ৭২ রান করে অপরাজিত আছেন তিনি।
