আইসিসি বিশ্বকাপ ২০১৯ এ নিজের নিজের শেষ ম্যাচে ভারত শ্রীলঙ্কা মুখোমুখি হয়েছিল। শ্রীলঙ্কার অধিনায়ক দিমুথ করুণারত্নে টসে জিতে প্রথমে ব্যাট করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন। ভারতীয় দল আগেই সেমিফাইনালে জায়গা করে ফেলেছিল, অন্যদিকে শ্রীলঙ্কা এই বিশ্বকাপ থেকে আগেই ছিটকে গিয়েছিল। এই ম্যাচ ভারত ৭ উইকেটে জিতে নিয়ে ভারত পয়েন্ট টেবিলে এক নম্বরে থাকার নিজের আশাকে জিইয়ে রেখেছে।

প্রথমে ব্যাট করে শ্রীলঙ্কার শুরুটা খারাপ হয় আর তাদের টপ অর্ডার ব্যাটসম্যানরা কেউই বড়ো ইনিংস খেলতে পারেননি। ৫৫ রানের স্কোরে দলের ৪জন প্রধান ব্যাটসম্যান প্যাভিলিয়নে ফিরে গিয়েছিলেন। এরপর অ্যাঞ্জেলো ম্যাথিউজ আর লাহিরু থিরিমানে ১২৪ রানের দুর্দান্ত পার্টনারশিপ গড়ে দলকে মুশকিল থেকে টেনে তোলেন। ম্যাথিউজ ১১৩ রানের ইনিংস খেলে প্যাভিলিয়নে ফিরে যান। শ্রীলঙ্কা শেষ পর্যন্ত ৫০ ওভারে ৭ উইকেট হারিয়ে ২৬৪ রান করে।
জবাবে লক্ষ্য তাড়া করতে নেমে ভারতীয় দলের ওপেনার রোহিত শর্মা আর কেএল রাহুল দলকে দুর্দান্ত শুরু এনে দেন। প্রথম কিছু ওভারেই দুজনে নিজেদের ইচ্ছে পরিস্কার করে দেন। রোহিত এই বিশ্বকাপে পঞ্চম আর লাগাতার তৃতীয় সেঞ্চুরি করে জয়ের ভিত গড়েন। তিনি ৯৪ বলে ১০৩ রান করে প্যাভিলিয়নে ফিরে যান। এরপর কেএল রাহুলও নিজের ওয়ানডে কেরিয়ারের দ্বিতীয় সেঞ্চুরি করেন, দুই ব্যাটসম্যানই প্যাভিলিয়নের ফিরে গেলেও ভারতীয় দল সহজেই লক্ষ্য হাসিল করে নেয়।
